Our customer, part of the School of Medicines team at a large UK University approached us in need of a pump solution capable pf moving 3,000L of chemicals from a tank to an IBC located 3m away.

Application Details

This customer approached Tapflo UK from a School of Medicine at a UK University looking for a pump solution that would move 3000L of chemicals from a tank to IBCs that were located 2/3m away. Ideally, the pump would come with a long hose to allow the team to completely empty the tank and be an easy solution that was ready to use without limited set up.

The chemical mixture in the tank was a combination of hot water, Boric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, Potassium Nitrate, Sodium Sulphite, Glycol, Stock II and Formalin (37%).

It was also requested that the tank could be emptied within an hour.

Pump Solution

Tapflo UK were happy to provide a Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pump to the customer.

Self-Priming Flexible Impeller Pump used for chemical transfer from tank to IBCs

EP MIDEX ¼”, close-coupled design, manufactured from AISI 316 and EPDM for chemical resistance.

Within our quote, it was mentioned to the customer that we could also provide a handle on the pump and/or a trolley for manoeuvrability around the site. The customer agreed to this addition saying it would make it easy to transport so the quote was amended to meet the customer’s new requirements.

The Flexible Impeller Pump was supplied fitted to a trolley manufactured from Stainless Steel AISI 316 and the solution was provided with hoses and connections.

Customer Support

The customer requested install on-site by a Tapflo engineer but for the solution being supplied, we felt this was unnecessary and would cost the customer more than the task was worth. The team changed the O-Rings and seals to those that would be more chemically resistant in our factory before sending the solution to the customer as this would be the most difficult part to set up.

We support our customers in a range of ways and in this instance, it would have been largely misleading to charge this customer for a site visit. In our After Sales support, the customer told our new Sales Executive, Steve, how easy the pump was to put together.

Features & Benefits

This solution was delivered to the customer for several reasons:

  • Flexible Impeller Pumps are a cost-effective solution
  • Mobile solution as fitted to a trolley
  • The pump’s materials were compatible with the chemicals being transferred
  • Simple installation
  • Reliable solution with low maintenance costs

Customer Feedback

The customer was extremely happy with their solution.

‘Excellent customer service and set up of our brand-new chemical pump. Steve was able to provide us with a chemical pump to meet our very bespoke needs. Empties the tanks without a drop of mess. Can’t recommend Tapflo highly enough.’ – Director of Anatomy Centre
